1st Ochsner Meeting

Hi everyone,

Prof Peter Jones and I would like to invite you to attend an Year 1 Ochsner co-hort meet and greet next Wednesday at 4.30pm in Room 409 (level 4) of Building 69 at the St Lucia campus. This will just be a informal session so Peter and I can meet with you and see how everything is going.
We would really like for you and your colleagues to lead discussions and let us know what issues you have found or what you concerns may be. We would also like to schedule some other sessions during the year and talk about social aspects as well as academic. Don’t worry if you can’t make it at 4.30 on the dot, there will be no structure or agenda, just a chance to have a chat. I am hoping to get us some pizzas or other snacks to munch on while we’re there.

Peter will also be speaking at the UQMS International Information Session on Tuesday 7 April.

Hope you can all make it.

Sue-Ellen

Ochsner Representative

Problem: Ochsner students have no representation

Solution: Get a UQMS Ochsner representative. Continue to discuss the issue with Academic VP.

International Info Night

From Year 1 International Rep Mike Nicholson:

Hey Everyone,
April 7th, @ 6pm is the International info night (@ Herston) for students who are interested in going back to Canada or the U.S. (or anyone else interested in going/writing comp exams). This night will be run by 3rd/4th year students now who are interested/applied to go back to NA as well as Profs. Wilkinson and Cleghorn. They will be there to give you advice about:

1) a timeline as for when you need to start thinking about applications/tests (USMLE, MCCEE), actually applying to write these tests

2) how to potentially go about applying for elective spots in the upcoming years, and when to do so &

3) what to do about looking for positions here, as interns, after completing 4 years.

This night is a ‘broad’ overview night to inform you about options/&when to apply for these & to answer any questions (hopefully). There will be another info night (geared towards upper years) that I would encourage you to attend that as well (info 2 come) which will be specific for later years.

Questions can be directed to Mike’s email.
